Crean Cottage - Traditional 150 year old stone cottage of yesteryear

A secluded comfy 2 bedroom cottage with enclosed garden awaits you in the heart of the West Ireland - only 20 minutes drive from Knock Airport. Nestled under the Ox Mountains and under the shadow of the bronze age excavated hillfort of Knocknashee, the cottage is a 5 min drive from the famous Tubbercurry - musical town proud of its traditional music heritage and friendly community. The cottage is a peaceful bolt hole with 2 bedrooms (1 double bed and 1 bunk bed & 1+1 guest bed). The living room has a traditional stone fire place and there is a very large fully furnished kitchen leading into the garden. There is a basic small shower room and WC and utility area. The cottage is heated by oil boiler (replaced in January 2023) with new 20 litre water storage.
The location is perfect for a relaxing break for couples or family or lone travellers. It is in easy reach of the River Moy for fishing, Ballina town, surfer beaches of Strand hill,Easkey and Enniscrone. The Wild Atlantic way is on your doorstep which is perfect for cyclists and there is even the Sligo Camino. Tubbercurry has it's own trail, perfect for young families and dog walkers. It's a 20-25 minute drive into Sligo town up the famous N17 which has a theatre, cinema, shopping and historical sites of interest. Beyond that you are in wonderful Yeates country and it's breathtaking scenery, walks, waterfalls and the beautiful Lough Gill. The cottage is about 1 hour drive from the border with Northern Ireland where you can explore Fermanagh lakes or visit Beleek pottery. It takes 3 hours to drive from Belfast International airport or 3.5 hours from Dublin airport.

This was a lovely, memorable stay for our family. The cottage was very comfortable and warm. Good sofa and good beds and a nice kitchen. It is beside a dairy farm but it is very quiet and our wee one loved seeing the cows. Ideal for anyone looking for beautiful views and peace and quiet.

A perfect quiet cottage
This cottage was absolutely perfect! Cozy and clean. A well equipped kitchen. We made several day trips to Sligo, the Aran Islands, and most of the Wild Atlantic Way. Yes, it was a drive…but this cottage was so comfy to come back to each night!

Lovely cottage
On arrival at the cottage it looked very tired compared to the pictures. The gate was all rusted, flacking paint on the front door, the gate was hanging off in parts and a large amount of weeds to the front. However, On entering the property it was lovely. Clean spacious and everything we needed for a few days. Kitchen well equipped and a good shower. The bedrooms a great size and ideal for a larger family too. Bed comfortable. The back garden really needed to be tended to as the weed theme continued to the back and an over grown garden. Whilst this was not a problem for us as we spent little time at the property, it could be for others especially if a family with kids and if a longer stay and more suitable garden furniture would be better ( chairs a little to low, but this is my personal preference). On balance we did enjoy the cottage it just needs a bit of TLC to the front and back and yes I would recommend it to others if you wish to stay in a ‘get a way from it all’ area. Lovely and peaceful and some nice views to the back. Good value for money.

Everything about this place is woderful! 🏡❤️
Quintessential, lovely Irish cottage is set among green pastures and mountain views. Loved the combination of traditional charm and modern convenience in the cottage, which was very clean and thoughtfully equipped. Back garden has a variety beautiful interesting fauna and is so pretty and private. Sara is an amazing host--clear directions and instructions as well as great recommendations for local restaurants, sights, and music. Sara also went above and beyond to arrange the return of a bag we left behind. If you are looking for a quiet, restful space in a beautiful part of Ireland, stay at this cottage--you will love it!

Delightful cottagr
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cute and cosy cottage which was still spacious enough to accommodate my wife, myself and our four sons. Well situated for trips to the coast (we visited Standhill, Ross Strand and Mullaghmore) there is also much to explore if the weather is not so good e.g. National Museum of Country Life, King House and one of our favourites the seaweed baths at Inishcrone. We also drove out to Westport which needs no superlatives from and even as far as Blacksod in the Belmullet peninsula. All in all, a great time, many thanks to Sara for what is a very good value holiday home.

Pleasant cottage in a quiet rural location
My sister and I had an enjoyable few days in this pleasant cottage. The kitchen diner was light and bright and overlooked the large garden. The bedrooms were both a good size and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was small but adequate and the shower worked well. Overall, the cottage was warm and comfortable and suited us well. The owner was helpful and friendly and responded quickly when contacted.

Lovely little cottage
Directions were comprehensive and made the cottage easy to find. The accommodation was generally well equipped and it was lovely to have the opportunity to experience one of those cottages we often pass and wonder what they are like inside! Information from Sara was very useful including letting us know of the local fair whilst we were staying. Overall an excellent stay in cosy accommodation.

Lovely place only a sort distance from the town , and beautiful scenery from the property. The only downside is that you have to take your rubbish to the dump yourself which puts a downer on the last day of your holiday

Cozy country home in Ireland
We enjoyed our 3 day stay at Slyvie’s Cottage. It is located in a lovely farming area south of Sligo Town and a good location to explore the surrounding Counties Sligo and Mayo. The Muir family has added many lovely touches which made our stay warm and welcoming. Directions, property details, and local activities are well provided.

Authentic Irish Country Cottage updated nicely
We were a little concerned if we would have trouble finding the cottage, but it was actually pretty easy. Just follow google maps for the more major roads and when you get on the smaller country road it is simply at the end. Very private in the middle of the country with cows all around. Tubbercurry is a little limited on food choices but charlestown just down the road had several good and reasonable restaurants. Even a grocery store(spar) that sold individual entries to heat up at the house all in metal tins so no clean up. We were busy running around seeing all the sights so we didnt spend a large amount of time at the cottage, but my children enjoyed the dvd/tv with all the kids movies after our long days. It is a great place to be for an easy day driving distance of lots of touristy things to do. They have a book with lots of local recommendations and of the course the famous ones are easy to find. The back of the house opens up to a farmers field and gives you a very private/country feel. However the neighbors are just up the road that seemed friendly and you are just about 10 minutes driving time from Tubbercurry if you need anything. Kitchen was remodeled and looked great. While the rooms were a little small(typical of cottages that age) they were very functional and we certainly did not have a space issue with my 3 kids and my wife and I. No problems getting into the cottage and figuring out the typical how do I use this house. The literature provided was very helpful and I can tell has been simplified over time. If you are interested in a authentic irish country experience, a private get away or simply like the value for this cabin then it is for you.

Comfortable and quaint cottage
It was a very quiet and relaxing stay for the 4 of us. There was enough space for everyone to spread out during the week, even though the bathroom was rather tight. Basic cooking tools along with coffee/tea are provided. The cottage has character and is at the end of the road. The charge for electricity is minimal. We had initially planned to spend more time at the cottage but because driving around took so much time we were pretty much there for dinner, until the next morning. Also I appreciated the fact that the guests are responsible for cleaning as we always make sure we clean up before we leave any lodging. It is remotely located so you need a car. A small car. A couple of things I did not know until later: 1. the owner lives in UK. And since the cell signal is rather poor at the cottage, I used my sometimes-working-wifi to contact her most of the time, but that meant it took some time to get answers as well. Also only one set of keys--we almost got locked out, because the door swings shut sometimes. I believe this type of door is common in Europe. But those from North America would find it difficult to get used to for a while. 2. you have to take the garbage with you at the end. This was not a big issue except for the fact that the dump is about 30 minutes away in Sligo. Unfortunately for us, we were not going that way when we left, so we ended up driving over 45 minutes with a stinky bag of garbage in the back seat (since the trunk was full with our luggages)! Also it is 8 Euro per bag for garbage. I recommend this cottage to a family with small children or up to 4 adults. And only if you can swing by a garbage collecting site after you check out.
