2/10 Terrible

"I didn't like anything about it .The booking in is poor getting to the room was terrible, especially with the lifts not working. The corridors had had dirty bedding just thrown in the corridor. I wasn't aware that the standard room didn't have windows this needs to be made clearer because when I booked the room it showed me one with a window. In the box room that we were given it was too hot with no air-conditioning on. It was like a sauna. Then the mattress was disgusting with a cheap mattress topper on, that was not fit for purpose. In the corridor between my room and the stairs there was about ten paint tins and a big cardboard box just left there. If there was a fire we wouldn't have been able to get out as it was that close to the door and stairs. As for a fire distinguisher I couldn't see one. At this point I went back to the reception and handed my keycards back in. The health and safty of this hotel is a disaster waiting to happen and needs to be reviewed."

"We booked the penthouse and on arrival paid the £197 immediately this was without breakfast. We got up to the room and it was ridiculously hot to the point you thought the heating was on full blast but wasn’t. We found one fan but it wasn’t enough we asked for a second and were told it’s one fan per room. We had no complimentary water which I though was standard, so we had to buy 3 plastic bottles which coat £8.50. There was an empty fridge in the room and the windows were crawling with insects both inside the room and outside and in between as they had two sets of windows. The balcony doors safety latch didn’t work so our little one nearly got out on to the roof. The room itself was filthy and too hot there is no air con at this hotel, the furniture was worn and broken. There was a light with no working bulb and other lights where you could see in to the loft with dust. It’s about as far away from a penthouse that you could imagine. For £200 a night I expected much more but at least to be clean to a decent standard. I didn’t realise it was a Britannia hotel until after I had booked, if I had know I would not have gone near it with their reputation however the photos I looked at on hotels.com looked really good clean quality place but on actual visiting it’s not accurate so the photos are either false or have been doctored. Extremely disappointed and a total waste of money the heat of the room was unbearable and we did not sleep much. "

"When we arrived about 5.45pm Sunday evening we could hear a lot of noise coming from the bar area . We went to our room and freshened up arriving back at the bar about 6.15pm. The bar was dominated by a group of "locals" who were worst for wear, shouting and swearing. My husband and I retreated to the terrace which was a bit cool. We asked if any managers were on duty and were told no. The staff were just youngsters and had no authority to deal with these people. We were told that the manager wouldn't subdue these people as they were regular customers. We will not be booking this hotel again. As for the room it was a deluxe room but was lacking in fundamental "

The Spa Hotel

4/10 Poor

"There is no Spa/lux feel to this hotel; as you walk in, the reception area is just in the way between the eating area and the bar. the staff are really lovely. The room smelled a bit of damp, the bathroom was so tiny you could barely turn round/get to the loo and it all needed a deep clean. Bed was comfy. There was no soundproofing I could hear the tv in the next room - it was like it was in my room. All old fashioned and not in a ‘faded glamour’ way. Needs a refurb. So disappointing for the wonderful cliff side location"
