Late night check-in

I had a late check-in time and the Signal Hill Motel accommodated my need. The room was clean and easily accessed. I will use this establishment the next time I am at this location.

I needed a cheap place to crash on the way to somewhere else, and this place worked well for that. It was a little dirty, but any issues I had were addressed by the staff (my key card stopped working and the office woman kindly fixed it for me at 1am). It does offer weekly rates, so the rooms do feel lived in, but it worked exactly as I needed it to.

My stay at Signal Hill Motel

The place is cute and sits in a busy commercial area where food and stores are comfortably nearby. However, the parking spots are not room assigned thus you have to park in front of someone else’s room so, it’s a little odd. And, although the rooms are clean on the surface they are in desperate need for a deep cleaning. Overall, the place is nice and comfortable.

One night at Signal Hill Motel.

There was no hot water in the shower. There were no drinking cups. The bathroom was almost the same size as the bedroom. Bed was comfortable. Service was pleasant and excellent. This is a "no-frills" motel with good value for the low price, other than the lack of hot water.

There is noisy traffic on the busy Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) until late into the evening. The walls are thin so you hear into the next room. It's roomy and the bed is comfortable. I could not figure out how to change channels on the remote I was handed when I checked in. It should have been a no-brainer.

Cigarette Smell=Unhabitable

Billed as non-smoking, the room reaked of cigarette smoke. The staff tried to accommodate--no other room was available so handed me a bottle of Febreeze and said they would contact housekeeper. Said they would change room on second night. No amount of refund available or offered. Linens smelled clean but the smoke smell permeated the room. Had to find different accomodations. Gave stars because of the staff's efforts, otherwise this is 0-1 star place. I just needed a clean place to sleep since I was attending a workshop all day but the smell negated all the effort of cleanliness for the rest of the room and bathroom.

It’s a motel and you get what you pay for. It was loud but clean except for having to kick a roach out of the room. (Only one we saw.) New floor, new fridge, new microwave, clean bed, and a hot shower. The noises from the street compound into the motel area and the walls are thin. (I’m glad our neighbors were watching Home Alone Lost in New York.)

Good price for a decent stay

The room was clean when I came. There were some holes in the bed sheets and window covers but they were negligible. The TV remote didn’t work but I stayed on my phone most of the time anyways. The fridge worked but the freezer section was frozen over. The only incident was on late Friday night. My friends and I went out and returned around 2 am. I forgot my key inside the room but when I went to the front desk for help, the attendant scolded me harshly for waking his family up. I apologized a lot but he still seemed very upset. I felt like a kid being lectured. He opened the door and I didn’t go back to the front desk until check out. Very easy check in and check out. Parking lot is confusing to get into but each room has a spot right in front so it’s good. Overall a fair stay for a good price.

I had to cut my stay short and leave the next day due to the condition of the room. 1st, there was a terrible odor that made it impossible to breathe. It was toxic and caused me to get a bad cough by the next day. The room was cold and there was no blanket. The heater could not be used because it was full of dust and blew dust everywhere when turned on. Additionally, there were incense sticks stuck in the heating element. Beside the lack of a blanket, there was no bath towels, no working electric sockets in the bathroom, and no light bulbs in the bedside lights. The brown hand towels smelled, and the duvet cover was ripped and stained. The floor was sticky to boot. The toilet was filthy and had brown stains all over it. There were no hangers on the closet dowel which was also partially broken. The mirror had aluminum foil partially covering it as it was broken and not replaced. The room was not habitable at all. However, the man who checked me in was nice and friendly. Sadly, the hotel room is not habitable.

I'd like to start by saying the person checking me in was polite. Other than that, the room was supposed to be non smoking. The room smelled like cigarettes. There was burn marks, stains, and hair on the bed sheets. Some stains looked like blood. There was multiple dead roaches and a couple live roaches in the room. There was pubic hair still on the toilet seat. Food crumbs on the refrigerator. When I called the property manager to get a partial refund, he proceeded to yell at me. Basically accusing me of leaving pubes on the seat and wanting to get in an argument. He said, what do you expect for $50 per night? My GF and I packed our stuff and checked out of the room less than 1 hour after settling in. Ended up checking into another hotel all together. I highly recommend everyone to stay away from this place. Not worth risking your well being for a couple dollars. STAY AWAY!
