The room was clean and cosy, very clean and had all the basic amenities you needed (apart from spoons to stir your coffee!). We were provided with a standing fan but unfortunately the room was still very hot, and there is only a skylight, so no chance to let some air in (Duke room). Would likely not stay in this particular room again but overall the place was nice, and in a good spot to explore Leith.

Great room close to all of the attractions in the city. Room had all the amenities needed for a couple of days in Edinburgh.

Great Nostalgic hotel, beautifully appointed rooms and the location was perfect to visit the city of Edinburgh.

Sadly Not the 5‑Star Experience We Hoped For We were really excited to stay here for our honeymoon after reading so many rave reviews from others celebrating special occasions. Unfortunately, our experience didn’t match the hype. Other than a quick “congratulations” at check‑in, our honeymoon wasn’t acknowledged at all, which was disappointing given how highly the hotel markets itself for special stays. Our room was airy, but tired in places. While the heated bathroom floor was a nice touch, there was very little storage and the sink didn’t drain properly. We also had to ask for a hairdryer, and whilst the receptionist was polite, the staff member who came to the room was surprisingly rude and made us feel embarrassed for not being able to find it. Whilst breakfast was delicious, it was confusing and not well explained. There is no price on the menu and it was unclear if you were paying per item or if there was a standard price and you could eat as much as you liked. The staff were really friendly but portion sizes were small for the price. Housekeeping came early on the morning we were checking out, which felt rushed. This was a shame as it was one of few interactions with staff. Overall, if you’re staying in the main hotel, you’ll likely have a much better experience and feel well looked after. But if you’re placed in the house across the road, it does feel like you’re an afterthought, which is a real shame for what was meant to be a luxury honeymoon stay.
