"Excellent location for both forest and local villages and towns. Quiet location, all meals very good, breakfast you couldn’t ask for more options. Staff excellent , efficient, yet couldn’t do more. Beers from Cropton brewery excellent and good choices. Some of building from 400 years very quirky rooms on multiple levels, confusing at first but yousoon become accustomed."

"The room was clean and comfortable, we had a good nights sleep and it was very quiet too. The WiFi was a bit slow but we got by with it. The dinner and breakfast was very tasty and we didn’t have to wait too long for the food. The staff were lovely and helpful and friendly. There was outside space to and look at the lovely view and we will be staying there again. The area is lovely and quiet too with Whitby close by too."

"Very traditional and attractive building, our room had recently had some new power points installed but they had not finished decorating round them so were a little ugly . The food was good but due to them being very busy and obviously short of staff it took a long time coming. One night we ordered at seven thirty and it was 50 mins before we got our food."

"We stayed in Buttercup cottage and it was absolutely lovely. It was much larger than we expected and was well stocked with everything we needed. It was also very well maintained and the biscuits, cake and milk were a nice welcoming touch. It was perfect for our stay, it’s tucked away in the country but only a short drive or walk to the nearest local shops / pubs. I was able to walk easily to the local convenience store in Castleton. It’s a great location for exploring the wider area whether you want to go further inland or to the beach - it’s easy for both options. Rachel and Rory were fantastic hosts, they were on hand to help with questions and had left really helpful information about the area ands things to see and do in the cottage. The parking was ample as well which was good for us as we were travelling with two vehicles. If we come back to the area I would definitely stay here again!"
