The person at night when I arrived at the hotel really made me extremely anxious when he said that they were “closed” and I couldn’t check in and made me believe I wasn’t able to get into the room I paid for. For context, it was 11:10pm and their check in “closed” at 11. You really shouldn’t frighten travellers by starting the conversation with “sorry we’re closed” . Anyways our room key was placed on top of the vending machine in an unsealed envelope. I have NEVER seen anything like that….I can’t imagine if I was any shorter- I would never be able to reach on top of a vending machine for the envelope. Then what?parking is extremely tight but free. Rooms were standard and clean but this experience left a really bad taste in my mouth.

We do close the lobby at 11pm. We advertise the check in hours on the websites. We send you a reminder email. We call you on the night of check in to remind you. With all our efforts you somehow are surprised by the hours for check in. You got very angry and complained. Instead of cancelling your reservation, we make an exception for you. We rearrange our schedules for you. After all this you complain about it and give us a bad review.

The bed was so soft it was like sleeping on Jello, but the pillows are so hard i had to add clothing.

I apologize that the bed is too soft for you. Unfortunately it is difficult to find a good fit for all guests. We ordered the best Serta mattress that we could find at a cost of several thousand dollars per mattress. We were told that it would be a happy medium for the majority of people. I have noted the complaint for further review.

For the price you can not go wrong.. Warm welcome and the gentleman wrote on the map where we were where to see where not to go and bus no etc to get around... Room was bright simply furnished but clean tidy and fresh Great location easy walk to cafes and restrurants the room had a fridge and microwave so you can also enjoy a night in after a busy day... Yer I'd stay again and recommend

Walking distance to dinner, good coffee shop and it was very convenient. Stayed for business trip. It was bummer only one parking spot per room but understandable for SF parking situation. My go to for business trip.

Perfect location for all sightseeing. Enjoyed the fact that it was walkable to all areas that Damon (front desk)suggested. The housekeeping staff were also very pleasant and helpful with supplies. Overall, would recommend this location.

Stayed before in a front room with no neighbors. This time had a couple in adjoining connected room. Could hear conversations and noise. Was ok as they were quiet but very problematic if uplate. Free parking great but just be careful maneuvering. Park and don't use the car again until you leave. Great neighborhood. Walked to North Beach and back. Wow a workout. All in all a really good deal!

The towels are tiny, hand towel size and terrible. The room had no air flow and the AC didn’t work. The phone was completely broken. When I called from my cell to get more towels, they hung up on me. Twice. The soap was teeny, scratchy, and smelled rancid. The toilet paper was one ply. There were holes worn into the carpet. The door didn’t lock and had to be slammed hard to even shut at all. The whole thing was so bad that I left a full day early because I couldn’t bear it for another second.

Castle Inn is a safe, affordable convenient place to stay when visiting San Francisco. We stayed two nights- visited the city for one day. Office staff was very friendly and gave tips to navigate the city. This motel is walkable to Lombard st, cable car stop, Fisherman’s Wharf, Chinatown- still some hills to navigate. The rooms were clean and there were adequate spaces to spread out belongings. The sink area is separate from shower and toilet, I would have liked a privacy curtain so as not to disturb sleeping companions while getting ready. Free parking was a plus- parking is a little tight- spaces are sort of underground.

FREE parking in the city is rare. This is a clean, quiet, private place to stay in a good part of the city with lots to do within walking distance.
