Vila Nova de Paiva is located in the Beira Alta region, Viseu district, in an area of gentle valleys, verdant mountains and traditional villages. It is a tranquil municipality, known for its quality of life, well-preserved nature and calm, relaxed atmosphere ideal for those seeking rest, walks and contact with the authenticity of Portugal's interior.



The occupation of this region is very old: there are numerous archaeological traces, such as orcas (megalithic tombs) for example, the Orca of Juncais, which is classified as a National Monument.



Over the centuries, the village went through different influences: there are Roman traces in the region.



In the local heritage, the Igreja Matriz of Vila Nova de Paiva stands out, with its Romanesque architecture (with a Baroque interior), and also the town's Pillory.



The figure of Aquilino Ribeiro, a Portuguese writer, is closely linked to these lands (Terras do Demo): there is an Aquilian route through the village, including the Mother Church and the Church of Alhais, places he mentioned in his works.



One of the great highlights is the Arbutus do Demo Botanical Park in Fráguas: it is a park with native species, walking paths, green areas and a lake ideal for a picnic or moments of contemplation.



The Paiva River, which crosses the municipality, is reputed to be one of the cleanest in Europe.



There are several river beaches in the municipality (such as in Fráguas) where you can swim, relax by the water or simply enjoy the landscape.



For hiking and nature enthusiasts, there are trail running trails and walking routes to explore the mountain range and river banks.

In Alhais, the Parish Church is present on the Aquilian Route, with a sculpture in memory of Aquilino Ribeiro.
