We chose the Old Waverly Hotel due to its proximity to the Waverly train station, and we requested a room with a Princes Street view, and we weren't disappointed - as the view was stunning. The staff was wonderful, and priortized our room upon arrival to ready it for an early check-in, and the breakfast buffet was also good with a nice variety of options. The hotel has a comfortable lounge and good restaurant, which made it easy to decide where to eat. We'd definitely stay here again.
Hotel was exactly as I hoped it would be. My room was cozy and comfortable for one person. Staff were very pleasant and always willing to help. Location of hotel is perfect, right in the middle of everything to do in Edinburgh. Breakfast was delicious, much more than I expected. I would highly recommend Old Waverly Hotel.
The staff was friendly right off the bat. The fellow at the front desk carried my suitcase up the stairs for me (there were elevators from that floor). The room was ready, and everything nice and clean. The Wi-Fi worked perfectly. One thing in the bathroom I really liked was the glass partition that covered half the tub. What was unique was it rotated in to the tub so someone like me you move it in, and reach the safety rail to get carefully out of the tub.
We enjoyed our stay for 4 nights. The staff, including the manager, we're terrific. Our 2 3 bed rooms were perfect four our group of 5. I have two comments: first, they should change up the breakfast. Everyday it was scrambled eggs. Would be nice if there were fried eggs or omelets or pancakes or French toast. Secondly, many industrial type noises occurred in the middle of the night- glass breaking, metal being dumped, and more. I do not believe it is related to the hotel.
Hotel was in a superb location - just opposite the train station and so within walking distance of all attractions. Hotel is old, but the bed was comfortable and there was a bath/shower. The breakfast was brilliant and had everything you needed. Would definitely recommend.

Location is great, right across Waverley station. We had 2 rooms booked with toddlers, rooms were provided on 4th & 6th floor - and the lift was broken. It was so hard with the kids & luggage. Rooms had steps inside too! Washrooms had soap bars expired in March ‘26, AC, TV both didn’t work.

The only thing going for this “Hotel?” Is its location close to the Tran station to the center of the city - Imperial mile” and the National Gallery. But there other hotels with equally good location. It’s highly overpriced for what it offers. Tiny rooms, no shelves, very, very hot rooms and windows don’t open. The staff, except for the maintenance crew is not professional and kind of rude. There are stairs everywhere and the narrow aisles and tiny lift is a real problem, specially if you are over 60 and not athletic. Avoid this place.
We had one of the old rooms and it was very charming and had a lovely view of Edinburgh Castle. The breakfast was excellent. The dining room is stellar. I'm kind of sad that they are re-modeling. My traveling companions had a "new" room and it doesn't have the charm of the old one.
We had a room with view on Princess Street anf the Edinburgh Castle. We thoroughly enjoyed watching all the hustle and bustle on street below and the views of the castle also in the evening when it was lit up! Room was clean resturant on site delicious
The room itself had an old antique feel
My stay at the Old Waverley Hotel was excellent. The hotel is very well located, right in the heart of Edinburgh, making it easy to explore the city's main attractions. The views are absolutely breathtaking, overlooking the beautiful Edinburgh skyline and historic landmarks.
The staff was friendly and helpful, the rooms were comfortable, and the overall experience exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend the Old Waverley Hotel to anyone visiting Edinburgh. It is a wonderful place to stay and enjoy everything this amazing city has to offer.
