Nice room, dreadful staff
The staff are mostly hostile and inefficient. The person who checked me in was not very welcoming or willing to help. I arrived in the hours of darkness and had to ask another member of staff where to find my room on the sprawling complex. Two female members of the restaurant staff one evening accused me of avoiding paying for a soft drink. I pointed out that they had no evidence of this and that the fault lay with them not clearing the table from previous guest use. I explained this to the restaurant manager who seemed uninterested and was unapologetic. My request for a high floor room was ignored and I was given the middle floor of a three storey building. the room however was lovely. Very spacious including the wardrobes. There was an easy to operate safe, large tv with BBC 1,2 and 4 and itv, the bathroom was showroom size with lots of space around the basin, bidet and bath that had a marble seating area beside. Sliding doors on balconies and stone tiled floors throughout, so some noise hazards if faced with inconsiderate neighbours! Balconies are not private as they have wooden lattices either side. A 1.5 litre bottle of water is provided each day of housekeeping. Two fans are in the room, a ceiling rotary and one in a sealed unit. Dinner in the restaurant had a superb selection of offerings whilst breakfast was fairly standard with hard overcooked bacon. Some pleasant and sociable chefs. On site there is a small gym and pools on two different levels.

Seventh time just like a comfy pair of slippers
You cannot go far wrong here. If you want heat, sun, a sun bed, good food without the fancy fanfare you cannot go wrong here. This is our 7th time at the hotel. Now.. nothings changed but it needs to. Not going overboard but simple refinements are needed, comfy sofas, strict rules on where to smoke, better lighting of a night time & acoustic panels in the dining hall to lessen the noise. The sister hotel the ‘Mar’ up the hill has been really spruced up and the outside music arena and bar looked perfect. The theatre here was a bit of a misfit it’s too low in ceiling height & should be outside. There should be a better way of disposing of cups & the rooms UK tv stations could be increased as it’s nice to relax in your room. The hotel is nothing extraordinary but it’s like your slippers or favourite jumper.. comfy.. well worn.. not fashionable.. and one you can have no issue staying at. The area is awful! The beautiful crystal blue sea and power sands.. ohh you will but don’t come as I don’t want to see it populated too much more! …. Jandia the canaries hidden secret!

The food was good in the main hall but in the snack bar flies everywhere... Needs some sort of air con tho keep the flies off the food! The reception staff let the team down whilst cleaning staff were superb. All inclusive doesn't include the putting green! When my son was sick in his room they wouldn't let me take a bottle of wine to stay in the room with him so couldn't enjoy the all inclusive facilities for 2 days. I like a cigar now and again but there are no adequate smoking facilitiesonly standing next to a bin in the sun. I'm a resident in Spain but they wouldn't give me residensia discount!

Would not class it as a 4 star main lobby is very nice and perhaps the main rooms are good. The out building rooms are somewhat dated and the Aircon is old, noisy and does not work very well. Pool area and staff are amazing. There was plenty of food but most of the time is was warm at best. Maybe is was down to the pandamic I'm not sure but personally I wouldnt go back to this hotel. However I did enjoy the break.given the current state of the world.

Disappointing for a 4 star hotel!
We are a couple who know what we like. We won’t go for less than 4 star and we will always do our research to find the best possible property. I had contacted the hotel in advance to check the hotel definitely had a working fridge in the room as per the description as my girlfriend has to keep medication cold. I was told yes. When we arrived at the property there was a distinct lack of care and interest in our stay and I was given attitude because I asked to carry a silly green bracelet that you must wear in the hotel (ridiculous!). We then went to our room and the hallway had no lights making it pitch black. The room itself was outdated and was generally rundown and needing some TLC. For example broken bits of door from use, cracked floor tiles and more. We discovered that the fridge did not work and the AC did not work either. It took the hotel hours to fix the the issues and they refused to simply change our room and gave me attitude about it. The next day our door would not open in the room, it resulted in a member of staff climbing from the next balcony into our room. A cleaner also left a dirty bathroom cleaning cloth in our room! (Unacceptable at any time but especially during COVID. For compensation, I asked to simply have 2 hours late checkout and I was given attitude and told it would be €15. That really was the last straw. I wanted to like this hotel as my family and I used to stay at Occidentals when I was younger. RUDE & BAD CONDITION HOTEL AVOID!

I was here with two of my friends for 4 nights. The area of the hotel is pleasant and surrounded by wild beach. The hotel itself is very nice with two lovely pools and a lovely chill out area. We were given a lovely room for three with a nice view. Nevertheless, the service at the check-in was not up to standard, the receptionist was unpleasant when we were asking for the details of the Half board service as we were not aware that drinks (water and non alcoholic beverages ) were not included for dinner. It was not a nice welcome to the hotel. However all the other staffs were very welcoming and made our trip comfortable.

The buildings on the lower levels have a long way up to all inclusive bars and to restaurants. Generally it is not a hotel for people who have problems with their legs due to the difference in height levels

There was a good variety of bar areas to pick from and plenty of outside space either sat at a table for a drink/snack or around the pool. Sun loungers we’re available any time of day without the early morning scramble you usually see. A very good family orientated resort within easy walking distance to the beach. A bit of a tidy up around the pool areas wouldn’t go amiss as a few tiles both in and around the pool were missing or broken but this would not put me off going back.

Pleasant 5th visit
This was our 5th visit to this hotel over a 10 year span making use of the Tesco Clubcard voucher discounts. Whilst the bedroom we were in this time is dated it could not be faulted for cleanliness or comfort of the bed itself. The entire hotel, and it is huge, is well maintained, clean and tidy. The food is typical buffet fare but well presented and plentiful. The beaches were stunning and a walk to the highest point on the island La Zarza with its view over Cofete and both coasts recommended. It is a long 3hr walk, tough towards the final summit, but well worth it. The start can be reached by following the road up the hill from the main hotel entrance. Overall we had a pleasant short break and would visit again.

The property was massive,so many pools,the food was amazing,always something new. The view was absolutely gorgeous. The only thing they should working on is the lift system and so many stairs, which is really hard for an older person.

Like a comfy pair of shoes!
Fifth visit to the Jandia Playa. In short it does exactly what it says on the tin. In essence, not the plush gold dripping palace, then again not the grotty hole you wish you had avoided. Treat this hotel like your most comfy pair of shoes! Does the job, not the ultimate in design, gets you on your way & won’t let you down. Add in minor improvements on the way and it’s something if you look at it for what it is, you will appreciate the value over the years. Few pointers: Beds THE most comfortable ever. Views from main building - amazing. Food - plentiful, yes repetitive, but clean & you will not starve! Drink - it’s there & you can enjoy without going overboard. Entertainment- good, but if the management put a glitter disco ball in the lobby area where live singers were & dimmed the lighting believe me they would have all nationalities up dancing! Missing a trick there Barcelo! Pool beds - this a problem, up at 7, grwb your bed, clear off for 3-4 hours then return, this isn’t good enough, time to sort this problem out. Put that aside & full credit to the whole team!

Overall our stay at Occidental Jandia Playa was okay, however there are a few issues which need to be highlighted: 1) The staff (especially reception) are not particularly friendly and could do with a lesson in customer service. Also one of the cleaners had stolen cigarettes from our room and smoked them INSIDE our room thinking we wouldn't notice (the room stank of cigarettes when we returned). 2) The food was disappointing and unsanitary. There were flies everywhere in the food and they recycled a lot of the main dishes. I understand that there isn't too much variety with the food considering the price we paid for all inclusive, however the flies and unsanitary conditions really killed our appetites. Also saw a lot of the hotel residents stick their dirty hands to fondues and so forth. Disgusting. 3) This is a minor issue and only want to mention this to allow the hotel to make positive changes: They need to stop using plastic for everything! The food had plastic sticks for serving, all drinks were served in plastic containers and the mess after the day by the pool was awful. I also found broken plastic in my food on the first night arriving.. I'm sure this is a problem in most hotels in the world, just made me sad that so much resources are being wasted. Overall, we did enjoy our time, the above needed to be mentioned. I'm sure if you're looking for a sunny holiday by the pool, you generally won't be disappointed.

The staff here are brilliant. Especially the kids entertainers. Every night the disco for kids was well appreciated by our three year old. Followed by a great show to keep us all laughing. The poodle are fine and the food although a bit same same was fine considering it was all inclusive. The beach is only five minutes away and is stunning.

The staff were excellent and on the day of check in at the reception -very welcoming and friendly staff. The facilties were ok but could have done more with heated pool and the Gym facility is so small , it has more equipmenst in the small room and hardly few people could fit in!! The room cleaning service was good but there was no water to drink or coffee on a daily basis ( only one bottle of normal water and sparkling water were in the fridge as a compliment when checked in). My friends who accopmanied us booked directly through the hotel website and they had complimnet vouchers of nearly 50 Euros with welcome gifts and a room with a difference. I honestly felt cheated for booking through expedia!! i wouldnt recommend through expedia!!

Although we continuously perform maintenance on our equipment, a device may sometimes be out of order from regular use. Hotel is spotless and the kids club is amazing (thx to Belen) who if absolutely fantastic with the children and made their holiday so special with all the activities. The food was not great in restaurant (though could always find something) and the food wasn’t very warm-more staff needed in restaurant to assist with allocating tables and clearing them for new customers arriving.

A great all-inclusive resort for families with many amenities, pools, etc in a terrific location on the side of a cliff. Our room overlooked the ocean and it was easy to access the beach using the elevator down to the plaza on the main road into town and the lighthouse. As a couple, we opted for Half-Board and were singled out many times in the buffet dining room as second class clients. Wonderful staff though in reception and some waiters who were very nice to us, knowing the company policies are somewhat mean-spirited. Not enough seats in entertainment area which is in a bar, so we were unable to enjoy the shows. Our room was very spacious and well-appointed. There was plenty of parking on the street outside the resort.

Handier near Jandia!
The Occidental is a rather large hotel at the opposite end of the strip form the cafes and shops. It was close to amenties as there is a local small shopping centre where you can buy your essentials however. Upon arrival and departure, a porter will take you by buggy with your cases to your apartment as it is quite a distance to walk from reception! If you have any walking disability be aware that the hotel is on a hill and the walks around the hotel grounds are uphill. Food is buffet style and a very good choice of local as well as international dishes. It does seem to be the same choice every day however and things like soup etc was only very warm and not piping hot. As a half board resident, you are put into a separate section of the restaurant and it did seem very segregated if you have made friends with people in a class! Service was ok for drinks etc but did have to wait on a number of occasions. Rooms are quite well specified with the usual tv and fridge but I was disappointed that there wasn't any tea/coffee making facility as advertised. There is air conditioning and and a ceiling fan for temperature comfort though. Toiletries are supplied in the bathroom complimentary so no need to pack any in your suitcase. Overall, I would say I had a nice stay as it is in a handy location for accessing the beach which is a 15 min walk. The hotel is quiet off season and apart from a couple of minor issues worth booking if you want a good beach holiday.
