6/10 Okay

"It was a fairly okay stay, but no better than that. We arrived late and left quite early, so we didn't get a chance to use the facilities. The room was reasonably clean although the basin had a crack in it. The shower curtain seemed to be annoyingly clingy. The shower gel bottle pump didn't work. But overall it was ok. Biggest gripe was that the beds were very firm and I really didn't sleep that well. Breakfast was good, but at £15 a head, it wasn't good value. Charging £8 for parking was a little cheeky given there was no other option available. To be honest, I would probably stay at the Premier Inn down the road if I had to stay in the area again."

10/10 Excellent

"Lovely room with a gorgeous view of the pond and garden. Massive room with everything I needed and a nice sauna/steam room/pool. Sadly there are only 2 vegan options at the restaurant but they are both great, would love to see more. Suitable vegan options at breakfast also. The staff are lovely and helpful, asking me if I wanted any help with luggage upon check in and happy to hold my luggage after check out too whilst I visited the pool. This was my second stay and I really do like it here. Convenient location just off the M4. Look forward to next time."

"The room we booked was spot on until the water failed in the bathroom, there was no water at all after a hour going back and forth talking to reception and staff they said they had found another room two floors up and we could use it's bathroom and keep our room, after some more discussion we said we would move to that room as going back and forth for the bathroom was not practical. When we got to the room it was very poor dust everywhere TV remote taped together and a TV that kept freezing never did get it to work, just one chair to sit on and it looked like it had been thrown out by a charity shop, the bathroom was not suitable as we need a walk in shower, due to the delay in moving us and sorting out our problems it was now to late for us to go out and we still could not get washed, we cancelled our plans for the night. I went back to reception and asked if this was the best and only room available in the hotel and was told that's all we have got, I at this point lost the will to live, I just collected the key cards for the room and handed back the temporary one they had given me. In the morning the manger offered me a discount on another stay or a small refund, what a joke tha staff at night did not have a clue about what they should do or could do without a manager approval. I would never stay there again even if you paid me."

6/10 Okay

"Hotel car park too small, and you need to exit the whole service area and re-enter to follow the one way system to get to the service area car park, which is available as an overflow. Once parked there, a clearer signage to the hotel is needed. Room clean but a bit noisy. Shower was excellent, bed comfy. Bar was out of two draught beers from an already small selection. Unpleasant smell in corridor. Hotel grounds need professional attention. Staff very helpful."

Celtic Manor Resort

"I'd always wanted to stay as I'd passed the hotel many times. First, parking -you have to pay. Underground is £25, overground £13.50. Not good. Receptionist helpfully told me to move car from underground to save money. Went to get light lunch on cafe/bar in foyer. Lots of staff milling about but took some time to be served and then wrong sandwich arrived. Also would have expected a decent sized tea pot instead of one that help one and a bit cups. Room was OK, comfy bed, but had to get maintenance to fix the plug plunger for the sink. Would have expected housekeeping to notice this. Then, after I went to bed I tried to adjust the AC but it just kept reverting to "high" so had to call reception at 1.30am to fix it. Fortunately it was fixed remotely. Dined in The Grill. The hotel thoughtfully provide minibuses to get you around the site. Waiting staff were helpful and friendly but I didn't care much for the food - moules mariniere. Strange taste. There was plentiful food at breakfast but it was all s but bland. Overall it was a disappointing stay for a 5 star hotel. I prefer the Vale Resort. Kettle had scale on outside."
