A great cheap option in an optimal location near the shopping and dining district, the pond, and the harbor. I stayed here before and after a group tour from the city. It has all the basics you need to just have a comfortable and peaceful night’s rest.

Well I thought we were staying in a hotel but it was more like a hostel style place. I didn’t see any staff the entire time I was there but we did have check in instructions. The place was said to be smoke free but it smelled really bad of cigarettes. At one point we ran out of toilet paper and that was a challenge considering we had to share the bathroom with several other guests which we definitely were not aware of when we booked the room on hotel.com

Website stated a code would be sent to enter the building. This was never sent. It stated someone would be at the reception desk. No one we there. We sat outside the building on our luggage. No one answered the phone. This was a 10 am in the morning. It was inexcusable and very unpleasant experience.

Check in is not staffed after 2pm yet they dont let you check in til then. They email codes and info to you ahead of time. No elevator. Room was Ok but not the cleanest- i.e, some cobwebs. Great location but bring earplugs if you want to sleep early as it is right downtown near loud bars. Needed a cheap one night stay near my hotel after my son was able to join us last minute and this fit the bill. He had a 3rd fl single, private room w a sink and shared bathroom. Did not eat breakfast

We were a group of 5 with young kids and were housed in two separate buildings even though we did try and communicate ahead of the trip. To get to the different buildings require you to go outside and come back in. The two properties are very old and it shows. The kitchen in the "A" building needs a lot of work where the kitchen in the "B" building is nice. We also tried to make changes to our booking (decrease the stay by one day) but via the website we could only cancel the entire stay and rebook at a higher costs. When we reached out to the operator we only received a response after we already left. I will admit that the location is nice to be used as a base location as it is close to all of the tour bus stops.

The guesthouse is in a great location in town. The room was as expected. Kitchen and bathrooms were fine as well. Great water pressure in the shower. We were a little late checking out (as I thought check out was at 12 but it was 11 - I messaged the guesthouse at 1130 when I realised and we arrived back at 1150). The owner had gathered all our personal items and put them in our bags. While I appreciate we were 50 mins late checking out and the new people arrived early at 11.30 (1.5 hrs early - check in is 1pm), I don't appreciate my personal items, small electronics that were charging, and toiletries, being picked up and placed randomly into our bags. We were also stressed out trying to figure out where everything was before we had to hurry to walk to our shuttle bus.

Safety - no handrail on steep stairs at entry to building 2 No smoke detectors in room (been removed) Dirty - Shower had black mold in it. Carpet was filthy in hall. Unattended - never saw owner during hours of 9 -1 when they said they would be available. Owner never returned e-mail or text (same said by Expedia agent we contacted for help). Lying - owner had stated we were in Room 3 (building 1 and moved us to building 2 with no private bath as promised). The same was stated by 2 other families who came in during our 3 day stay. Only positive was convenient to down town area.

The guesthouse is a reasonable option for a short term visitor to central Reykjavik. However, it fails to deliver on its promise to provide safe storage of luggage. The luggage room is unlocked, unsupervised (since there is never anyone at reception) and easily accessible not just to all guests but to anyone on the street who knows the outer door code which appears never to change. For that reason we had to abandon our booking and move to different accommodation.
