So let down by the reception staff who took payment three times, once without even getting permission, and when I queried it I was met with the most rude and condescending tone I’ve ever experienced in a hotel. Not just rude, but argumentative and patronising. “Let me tell you how a hotel works.” Barry and his colleague on reception are two people who do not belong in a five star establishment. Throughout the encounter they offered no apology or gesture of goodwill - not even once.
It’s a crying shame, since the hotel itself is beautiful, and most staff were warm and friendly - particularly the women running the spa. Please let them run the reception instead!
We did also have to wait a full hour for a bottle of champagne to arrive at dinner - rather a pre dinner toast it ended up being a desert accompaniment - again, no apology or acknowledgement.
Disappointing.
