I have been staying at Hotel 1898 for over 15 years and even chose it for my honeymoon, so it genuinely saddens me to write this review. It has always been my first choice whenever I visit Barcelona. Unfortunately, over my last two stays I have been checked in by the same member of staff, who on both occasions came across as unfriendly and rude. First impressions matter, and as a returning guest I certainly didn't feel welcomed. I also feel that the level of service has gradually declined over the years. When I first started staying here, breakfast was served on the rooftop terrace, which was a wonderful experience. Although that changed, I continued returning because I enjoy the hotel and always book a terrace room. However, I was disappointed to find that room service breakfast order cards are no longer provided, so we chose not to have breakfast at the hotel. It's also noticeable that many other Barcelona hotels I stay at, such as H10, Borneta, Duquesa and The Serras, offer guests a small complimentary welcome drink or similar gesture. It may seem like a small thing, but it makes guests feel appreciated and valued. Hotel 1898 is still a beautiful property in a fantastic location, but for the first time in over 15 years I'm questioning whether it will remain my first choice. Loyal guests have plenty of options in Barcelona, and I hope the management will focus on restoring the level of hospitality that made this hotel so special in the first place.

Very clean hotel, the staff is friendly. I like the spa a lot. Highly recommended
