"The Borrowdale Gates is a total gem. It exceeded our expectations. The staff are professional and accommodating. The breakfasts were great and we dined in all 4 nights - a first for us - largely because the cuisine and attention to detail was superb. AND the view from the dining room was breathtaking."

"What a find! This beautiful hall is just perfect. Fabulous location with peacocks and lovely trails to walk in the extensive grounds. Our room had a super king bed and usual facilities. There is a spacious dining room and well stocked bar. You won't go away hungry as the food is excellent with generous portions. Very friendly and helpful staff. It's a must visit! "

"Just perfect in every way. Our room was spotlessly clean, modern, very comfortable and spacious. Craig and Clare are very welcoming and friendly and gave us lots of information on the local area. The choice of breakfast dishes is excellent and the food is fabulous. We are very much looking forward to coming back!"

"The hotel was very well presented in a scruffy and disappointing town. The quality of the catering at the hotel was exceptional. Some of the best food I’ve eaten in an hotel in a very long time. The menu was imaginative with some nice detail and the delivery exceeded expectations. The town wouldn’t attract me back but I would be prepared to travel some distance to sample the food again."

"Its all about attention to detail, and this place has got it and then some! Can not rate this accomodation highly enough the staff where so friendly and helpful, and nothing was a problem for them. The little things matter and the place has plenty of quality. The hot tub was a nice extra as was the piano in the lounge area. Very clean and tidy. We will be back, lovely experience and the breakfast was excellent in both quality and quantity. It was a pleasure to stay here. "

"Lovely room and great views from the room over the estuary. The corner shower is a little small and the outside steps up to the property could be a problem for some guests. We had breakfast at the Pennington Hotel, whilst the food was good the service is very slow, had to ask for tea several times and for the servers to take our cooked breakfast order. "

"We loved the wayside whiskey barn. We had the twin room which was tastefully decorated. The whole place was real class. We had a full english for breakfast which was delicious. Emiko was a lovely lady . She let us book in a bit earlier. She went out of her way for anything that you would need. We would definately go back for a return visit."
