"We had a great stay here for a few nights with the family over Easter. The barn is lovely and well equipped, the kitchen had everything we needed including a big multi-oven cooker which made cooking for 6 people with varied dietary requirements very straightforward. The garden is lovely and we were lucky enough to catch some of the trees in full blossom.
We enjoyed some superb walking and there was plenty of information provided to help us find paths that didn’t show up on my internet...
"Loved our stay here! Such a beautiful location and friendly staff! The staff here went above and beyond as they allowed me to use their bar to film an audition. So grateful to them!! Still haven’t heard anything from my audition though haha but promised to call if I got it. Such a beautiful place and had a great sleep. "
"Lovely old building but in need of general updating. Grounds and gardens lovely and very well kept with easy access to the river for walks. We booked ‘Deluxe’ double room but nothing like the publicity photos, comfortable enough though. "

This castle, which is part Norman, part Jacobean and part Victorian, has stood for more than 1,000 years and has been a medieval stronghold, occupied by invaders, a patriots’ citadel, a manor house and even a famous bookshop.

"A very comfortable bed and the room had everything needed for a short stay.
Staff were great and very helpful. Parking was right next to the hotel and off-road.
Breakfast had great choices and the poached eggs were just right. "
"We were delighted by the old-fashioned charm of this hotel, which has surely survived despite all the odds in the current financial climate. We booked a 'superior' double room which turned out to be enormous, the only setback being that it was up 2 flights of stairs and the second of these had very narrow steps. However the room was lovely and so was the bathroom (which had a jacuzzi!) All was nice and clean.
On one evening they had a carvery which was very popular and deservedly so. Breakfasts were 'continental' style, but plenty of choice. The bar is an old-fashioned gem."
"Staff could do with a little more training!
History of the house could be better documented?
Garden care could be better, just a little bit fluffy round the edges!
Overall a wonderful house just needs a little bit more tlc.

"This is a hotel with traditional style and modern comfort. We had a week's holiday here participating in the Three Choirs Festival. The hotel made us very welcome even to the extend of presenting us with a welcome gift. It all added to a most enjoyable break with good food and drink, good company and excellent entertainment. My daughter and son-in-law particularly enjoyed the cocktail bar so we made them a gift to come back on their own some-time. Thank you. A Five Star Review - we had a wonderful time!"
"We loved everything about this unique hotel. The Godwin floor tiles are simply superb, but the 'traditional' feel to the hotel adds to the charm. Terrific value, and we will be back."
"This place is absolutely amazing.
Our room was comfortable and had everything we needed and more!
Our evening meal was some of the best food we've ever eaten.
We also used the wellness facilities which were equally fantastic.
Overall a superb place."
