"Great host and communication. The house is cozy and it had everything we needed. The air conditioning was great in the Japanese heatwave. In just under 10 minutes, you can walk to some of the nicest streets in Kyoto with temples and cafes. However, everything around there closes quite early and becomes really quiet - so be aware if it’s not your vibe. Not a big deal for me, though. "Yasada San was amazing at check in! This place is huge by Japanese standards. We booked the room with two twins. It has burners and a kitchen sink and a hot water kettle. The shower and tub area were enormous! Yasada San was there to check us in when we arrived. He showed us how to get into the building, into our room and showed us everything inside our room. The location is right in the heart of the Hagashiyama District. Uphill."

Mitsui Garden Hotel Kyoto Sanjo PREMIER

Mitsui Garden Hotel Kyoto Sanjo PREMIER

10/10 Excellent
"The hotel is brand new and in pristine condition, but there were some notable operational quirks. It doesn’t seem like management is able to decide whether this is a luxury property or a select service hotel - even though there were two reception desks staffed at all times, the staff were actively pushing customers to use the three self-service kiosks for all operations (check-in, breakfast coupons, check-out) and actually doing the work for them on those machines. Not sure what the point of that was or whether it should be the case in a luxury property. Similarly, the public bath in the basement is pretty underwhelming, if pristine. All that said, the rooms were spotless, staff were very helpful and spoke English impeccably, and breakfast was great both in terms of food selection and quality."
