Lower Manhattan Kid friendly Holidays

We loved our stay at the Sohotel. We stayed in a Deluxe King room, and found it to be comfortable and clean. The deluxe room had central AC, which was great for escaping the August heat. The hotel’s location is perfect, closely situated to Chinatown, little Italy, SoHo, and lots of great restaurants. There’s a convenient subway entrance right around the corner for getting around the city. Many of our most memorable meals and souvenirs were found within walking distance of the Sohotel, including trendy spots like L’Industrie and Leon’s Bagels. My critiques are minor - the room has a mini fridge but no microwave, which was fine for us as we ate our meals out. Also, the shower is oddly planned - there is only a small rubber seam that separates the shower floor and the bathroom floor, and there is no door or curtain on half of the shower, which meant water escaped out of the shower with every use. This wasn’t too terrible either, as our towels were replaced daily. I would absolutely stay at Sohotel again!

I always enjoy this boutique hotel while in NYC. The location is great and near shopping, restaurants and the west side hwy. The hotel is always clean and well maintained. Some of the rooms have a view. There is a lovely rooftop bar upstairs with spectacular views. The staff is always friendly and I appreciate the 12 pm check out vs most of the other hotels with 11 am check out.

For $280 a night this was not worth it. I was only 40 minutes from check in time and they would allow me to check it. They had me put my things in a locker and wait til it was time. “An early check in required and additional $113!!! Insane for 40 minutes. Mind you that there is not an actual Human being at the time of check in. It’s done via QR code! Then I had to spend $30 mins on the phone with a service number to take an additional $88 for the stay! Bottom line is there are a ton of additional fees! I spent over $ 300 at this place! Poor amenities, poor service! Room was miniature! The whole thing was very hostel feeling!

I’m sure this hotel was a gem 30+ years ago. The restaurant and bar were closed which wasn’t disclosed until after we were told the reservation was non-refundable. The mattress was old and lumpy. The bathtub was chipped and the drain couldn’t be opened/closed. We paid a premium based on the Expedia recommendation. There are other hotels in the area that are better and cheaper.
