Check in not very welcoming, we asked for a quiet room with bath, in the booking , and even rang a few days prior to make sure . However we were allocated a room next to the lift with just a shower. The receptionist changed our room, we always sanitise any bedroom surfaces and spray the pillows , by taking the pillow cases off. To our disgust the pillows didn’t have protectors and two of the pillows were very dirty, one with rips and dirty marks around the edge and the other had sweat marks ( or mouth dribble ) totally unacceptable in what is supposed to be 4 star. I’ve never stayed in any hotel, no matter what star, that doesn’t have pillow protectors. Covid is still with us, yet The Townhouse are not protecting guests. No hand sanitiser on reception desk even. How can housekeeping change a pillow case , seeing very dirty pillows and think that is OK? It makes me think what other cost cutting methods going on at this hotel. We certainly didn’t want to eat there. I know it’s an old building, and windows can’t be changed, but secondary glazing would make the room quiet and guests enjoy a good nights sleep. This hotel cannot be recommended . Certainly wouldn’t stay at The Townhouse Manchester again. I asked to see the duty manager , the receptionist said she didn’t know what his name was and if he was around.
