Riviera Maya Golf Club

Our group of 20 (five families) stayed at Allegro Playacar for six days, and every family agreed we would not return. Before arrival, we requested connecting rooms because we were traveling with minors. Instead, we were placed in different buildings. We were told to return the next morning, then told nothing could be done because the resort was full. Only after I posted a negative Expedia review did Hospitality suddenly find us an adjoining room. It shouldn't take a public complaint to accommodate a family with children. Dining was another disappointment. We couldn't get a reservation at any specialty restaurant during our stay. Although we repeatedly requested seating together at the buffet and arrived early, our group was always split into tables of 5-6. The beach was unusable due to excessive sargassum. The cleaning machine was broken, leaving one employee with a shovel to clear it. As a result, the two small pools were overcrowded. Our room had overflowing toilets, broken lights, a sewer smell, and no air conditioning for two nights. Only after we complained again were we told the thermostat had to be set to 20°C—information that should have been shared at check-in. The most alarming issue occurred at the Kids Club. A 6-year-old in our group wandered away, and staff never notified his parents. Thankfully, he was found safe, but this was unacceptable. The resort is also not wheelchair-friendly despite accommodating guests with mobility needs. Overall, poor customer service

The food options have decreased since we went 4 years ago. There are only 3 restaurants, so you end up eating at the same one multiple nights. That would be fine if the menu had more options, but each one only has 3 or 4 options on the main selection. The room service menu is also very small and sad, and the food we tried on that was not edible. Property is beautiful and peaceful, work out room is really nice. We come here for the small resort size and quiet, and Palmai delivers on that. They maintain the property really well and deserve recognition for that. Overall we won’t come back until the menu options change or increase.

We stayed the weekend of July 4th, definitely off peak season (about 60% capacity I think). Our goal was a quiet vacation with lots of relaxation, and this REALLY delivered! In spite of the roasting heat, I would definitely travel again off peak, specifically to stay in a room by the golden (quiet) pool where there are abundant shady pool chairs, poolside service, and daily visits from coatis, agouti, iguanas and so many birds. There was lots of ocean seaweed that was only minimally cleared due to sea turtle nesting season, however we got to see a huge mama turtle scooting back to the ocean during a sunrise walk! The staff were SO welcoming and observant, and we loved that we could pretty much keep to ourselves and not interact with other guests unless we wanted to.
